Services Offered

My name is Gregory Vigneaux. I am the founder, chief consultant, and design officer at Operational Coherence. I have experience consulting in the non-profit, federal, and private sectors. I am also an experienced speaker and published author who has written for peer-reviewed and industry publications. I have also taught and developed a graduate syllabus and a self-study systems thinking course at the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security.

I am a versatile researcher specializing in transdisciplinary research, wildfire, innovation, operations, resilience, design, and complexity. In emergency management, I am a leader in neurobiology, design, moving theory to practice, and creating and introducing new methods. I studied design following Carnegie Mellon’s Design PhD Program and had opportunities to work with a PhD student. I continue to exchange ideas with designers and write on the topic. Design has been essential in my emergency and wildfire management work from 2016 onward.

As an experienced wildland firefighter with nationwide Hotshot Crew experience, I am interested in developing new perspectives on fire, its management, and innovative suppression technologies.

Gregory Vigneaux’s Rookie Season was 2007 on the United States Forest Service’s Big Bear Hotshots. It was an enormous privilege to be on the crew under renowned leadership. Earning the coveted Rookie of the Year Award was a life-changing event.

What is in a name?

The name of this consultancy is derived from the renowned scientist Humberto Maturana’s notion of operational coherence. This notion may refer to the quality of a product in use, a design process, or other design outcomes, such as research. It is characterized by stabilities, regularities, and logical and consistent patterns that form meaningful relations. A space of operative coherences appears.
